The process

Simple, start to finish.

Four steps from opening the app to having a clear, organised shopping plan. No complexity, no jargon. Just a better way to shop.

Tell us where you are

Enter your city and postcode so Sprout knows which stores are near you and can show accurate distances in your results. New Zealand only for now. Australia and the UK are coming soon.

Tip: Your postcode helps Sprout find the closest stores. The more specific you are, the better your results.

πŸ’°

Set your weekly budget

Enter how much you want to spend this week in NZD. This is the number Sprout works backwards from. Everything else is shaped around it. Your budget is always the first priority, not an afterthought.

Tip: Enter your realistic budget, not a wish-list one. Sprout will show you how close you can get and flag if something goes over.
03
πŸ“

Add your grocery list

Type items one by one, paste a whole list at once, or import a CSV. Sprout handles the matching automatically, so "beef mince" becomes the right product in the right store at the right price. You don't need to be precise.

Tip: Just write naturally. "Eggs", "chicken", "pasta sauce" all work fine. Sprout's matching layer figures out the rest.

Choose your priorities (optional)

This is where Sprout gets interesting. You can select any combination of shopping priorities and dietary requirements, or skip this step entirely and just go straight to cheapest. Nothing is forced. Nothing is judged.

Tip: Not sure which filters to use? Try Organic and Low Plastic to start. You can always run the list again with different priorities.

Pick the mode that suits you today

You can switch between them freely. Some weeks it's budget only. Some weeks you want to do things properly. Both are completely valid.

Frequently asked

Is Sprout free to use?

Yes. The core Sprout experience is completely free. You can plan your weekly shop, use all the priority filters, and access the organic guide without paying anything. A premium tier with extra features like saved lists and order history is coming soon.

Where does the pricing data come from?

For supermarkets, Sprout pulls pricing from Countdown, Pak'nSave, and New World. For independent shops, we work directly with our partner network to keep their pricing as accurate and up to date as possible.

Does Sprout take a cut of my purchase?

Sprout earns a small affiliate commission of up to 3% when you click through to a shop and make a purchase. This never affects the price you pay. It's how we keep the app free for users.

What if an item isn't available in my area?

Sprout will show you the closest available option and flag if something can't be matched locally. Over time as our partner network grows, more items will be available in more regions.

Can I order directly through Sprout?

For some partner shops, yes. If a shop offers direct ordering, you'll see an Order Now button in your results. For others, Sprout redirects you to the shop's website to complete your purchase there.

Is Sprout available outside New Zealand?

Not yet. We're launching in New Zealand first to get things right before expanding. Australia is next, followed by the UK. If you're outside NZ and want to be notified when Sprout reaches your country, get in touch.
